3D on non-3D equipment

As you know 3D on TV is done by switching the left and right eye pictures very fast, and by the user wearing glasses that switch in sync with the picture switching. That means TVs without integrated 3D support can be used for 3D viewing provided an external device handles the picture switching and syncing with the glasses.

That’s exactly what VIP has done: Add 3D to Any HDMI-Capable TV or Projector – HotHardware

Note that the input to the VIP 3D-Gamer needs to be HDMI 1.4 compliant and of course in 3D, e.g. from a Blu-ray player with 3D support or a game console with 3D support.

This is a less expensive alternative to buying a whole new 3D TV.
