The right thing for Microsoft, no doubt, as they have so far lost out on the modern mobile paradigm, now counting also tablets.
Whether it’s the right thing for Nokia is another story, but they would have been acquired by someone, sooner or later, anyway, and they are clearly already in the Microsoft camp, after having ditched both Symbian and Meego, and tactically (?) stayed away from Android.
