The role of incubators

Can You Really Incubate the Next Big Thing- – Tech News and Analysis «

The value of incubators based on my experience is:

  • To provide a physical and social space for starting up a company, where you are with peers
  • Be able to utilize complementing competences like legal, financial, IP, etc, that most likely the founders are not experts in
  • Have easier to interest investors and media, as well as recruit staff when the need arises

It’s still the entrepreneurs that come up with the ideas and have the drive. Incubators just make it easier to realize them.

There’s also a possible risk with incubators: That you don’t feel the full pressure of running a company, lowering the ambition level and making you work locally instead of “getting out there”.
