Location based services at a turning point?

What I see today in terms of location based services for the public look more like games than really useful services. Foursquare’s success has been mayorship, but who cares about that in the long run. Is that more than a novelty?

I’d like to get informed about places, events and people in my proximity and based on selected categories, wherever I might be and without me having to start an app every time. We’ll get there eventually.

Also, location-based ads will drive this business, eventually.
