PalPosition

Description

PalPosition is a location based community with features like friends, chat/messaging, landmarks, maps etc, and consists of a mobile application for MIDP phones, a server component storing all the needed data, and an end-user portal service. These services are separately hosted, as the initial intention was to provide access to the storage service’s API to third party service providers. In hindsight that access could have been achieved in just one service, similar to Twitter, Facebook, Foursquare etc.

Functionality-wise PalPosition provides functionality similar to Foursquare, Gowalla, Brightkite, Facebook Places/Check-ins etc, but lacks mobile applications for iPhone and Android, support for uploading photos and videos, and a designed portal UI, which would be necessary to add for a commercial launch.

Setup

PalPosition was developed as a collaboration between Abiro / Anders Borg and Windh Telecom / Rikard Windh, where Anders developed the mobile application and the storage server component, while Rikard developed the end-user portal service.

PalPosition is still in prototype state, but might be completed provided funding.
